Isle of Skye flag windsock

This Isle of Skye windsock is 1.5 metres in length making it an excellent outdoor decoration for your garden or for your restaurant/pub. The isle of Skye flag was designed by a 9 year old boy and depicts a Birlinn which is a boat used in the middle ages. The five oars represents the five areas of Skye. Additionally, the boat is on a sky blue background with a yellow cross. The flag was selected in 2020 when a group of judges spent days going through 369 entries.

History of Isle of Skye

The Isle of Skye is the furthest North and largest of the major islands in the inner Hebrides. It is the second largest island in Scotland. Around 39.7% of the population can speak Gaelic making it a Gaelic stronghold. The main industries are tourism, fishing, forestry and agriculture. The climate is wet, windy and mild. The population of Skye is around 10,000 people.

You can also buy this pattern as an Isle of Skye flag in a small size of (5’x3′) or as bunting from our online store today. The windsock is made from 100% nylon making it weather proof and wind resistant. Show your support for the isle of Skye by flying the windsock outside of your house or establishment.

The Isle of Skye is also commonly referred to as the misty isle, which means the isle of mist. This is a poetic Gaelic name for the island. Adding to this, the most powerful Scottish clan were clan Macleod, originally based in Trotternish. However, in 1822 mass importation was devastating for the kelp industry and this led to many people leaving the island in desperation. On that note, the largest employer in Skye is the public sector, however crofting is still important in the Isle of Skye and for many is a means of survival.
